After the trip to Jerusalem for the WE Festival I started toresearch into alternative methods of representing and documenting space. The feedback I got from the instalation was very posotive. Not one aspect of the work was more important than the next, it was simply a starting point for conversation which most people could relate to. Either the audio, photography, or the sculpture. I began to read a book by Robert Venturi called Learning from Las Vegas. What is interesting about this book is that Venturi writes about how the now and changing landscape is often overlooked for study. It is also approached and represented in this publication in a very creative way from, snap shots in cars, technical diagrams, aerial views, and experiments which could be carried out by the reader. Altough the book is heavily based on theoriess around architecture I was more excited about how the various different examples document the benal and new (at the time) landscape. The new Metro system in Manchester still seems to only be celebrated for its practical purpose and this example is a great model of how contemporary urban sprawl can be documented in an engaging way. Elements of the book seem a little restricting to certain audiences which can be adapted and develop along with the project.
